Employees in construction companies in Romerike are now being offered a new, specially adapted study course in construction and demolition waste.

The goal of the course is to strengthen practical competence related to requirements, sorting, documentation, and sustainable solutions, in an industry with increasingly strict regulations.

Fagskolen Viken has developed the study program in collaboration with Kunnskapsbyen and industry players, to ensure a practical, relevant, and work-life-integrated course.

About the course

Construction and Demolition Waste is an online part-time course worth 10 credits, developed for skilled workers and other professionals in the construction, civil engineering, recycling, and waste management industries.

The vocational college program, conducted over a 12-week period, combines online instruction with physical gatherings. A minimum of 80 percent attendance at gatherings is required.

Content and Competence

Through the course, students gain a comprehensive understanding of construction and demolition waste, from planning and implementation to documentation and reporting. The content includes, among other things:

  • The value chain for construction and demolition waste, including sorting, downstream solutions, and material recycling
  • Principles for waste reduction, correct source separation, and requirements for a minimum 70% sorting rate
  • Organization of waste solutions on construction and demolition sites, with a focus on efficient logistics and clear labeling
  • Regulations and requirements, including the Waste Regulation, Technical Building Regulations, waste plans, and final reporting
  • Hazardous waste in buildings, including environmental mapping during renovation and demolition
  • Documentation, declaration, and correct handling, transport, and storage of hazardous waste
  • Reuse and reuse mapping, assessment of material condition and possibilities for reuse
  • Economic and environmental benefits from good waste management and correct material choices
  • Use of simple digital tools for registration, tracking, and documentation of waste

The course includes up to two mandatory assignments that must be approved to be eligible for the exam. The course concludes with one comprehensive final assessment.
