Urban planners, politicians and businesses of different kinds all work hard to reduce the carbon footprint and ensure a sustainable future for everyone.
This theme explores how green buildings, infrastructure, mobility, public spaces, meeting places and test facilities can support more connected and innovative urban areas. The focus is on the physical conditions that make collaboration possible, places where researchers, businesses, municipalities, students and communities can meet, test ideas and develop new solutions.
Kunnskapsbyen has played a key role in advancingemission-free construction sites through the Cleancon project, in closecollaboration with Lillestrøm municipality and industry partners. By combiningpublic procurement, policy and innovation, the region demonstrates howzero-emission construction can be tested and implemented in real projects, making it increasingly feasible to turn emission-free construction into the newnormal.
As part of the visit, delegations can learn about NODE60, Romerike’ s emerginginnovation district — a regional initiative connecting knowledge environments, businesses, municipalities and public actors across sectors. With Lillestrøm as one practical case, visitors can explore how a growing city can use sustainable urban development to strengthen innovation, attract talent and improve quality of life.
Through Green Visits, delegations can explore governance in practice: partnerships, policy, procurement, pilots, shared priorities and the ability to turn knowledge into action.
The Urban development and green buildings experience is not about the facility alone, but the combination of:
- A site to see – where the solution is working in practice
- A politician or public official who explains the decisions and policies that made it possible
- A private actor who delivered the technology or service
As part of this theme, visitors will learn about NODE60, Romerike’ s emerging innovation district, and how it uses collaboration across sectors to connect people, projects and places. NODE60 shows how an innovation district can become a practical framework for developing, testing and scaling sustainable solutions.
Sustainability is the key in urban planning also for the smaller cities in the Oslo Region. Municipal plans for urban development, energy and environment, mobility all take sustainability as a main factor.
