Kunnskapsbyen Lillestrøm is a development environment for businesses in Romerike. We create new relationships and interactions that otherwise would not have occurred.

About Us

Kunnskapsbyen Lillestrøm currently represents about 190 member companies with a total of 17,000 employees (not counting employees in municipalities and county municipalities). We have become a junction box between business, academia and local councils. Together we create a well-functioning arena for competence and business development at Romerike.

As a member, you get access to an innovative network of innovative companies. This collaboration has developed a number of innovative, professional and social meeting places.

Our Mission

The business development association Kunnskapsbyen Lillestrøm has a unique network cooperation that includes knowledge institutions and public enterprises. Through our member networks and skills development projects, we bring together and promote the business community to create attractive and sustainable businesses.

The activity in Kunnskapsbyen Lillestrøm is particularly focused on skills development, green business development, healthcare industry, digitalisation and the use of new technologies. Our entrepreneurial initiative is an important tool for establishing new industries and new jobs. Kunnskapsbyen has two subsidiaries that support start-up companies; Business Lillestrøm and Scale Up Lillestrøm.

Our Story

The association was established on 13 December 2000, on the basis of a report by Cambrigde, commissioned by Oslo Teknopol. It concluded that the Kjeller environment's professional expertise matched that of the international elite and it had great potential for creating new jobs.

The challenge was that these obvious opportunities were not exploited. The basement environment had too little contact and cooperation with industry and the society around it. Skedsmo Municipality therefore took the initiative to establish Kunnskapsbyen Lillestrøm, together with research institutes, businesses, educational institutions and Akershus County Municipality, in order to contribute to business development, increased value creation, growth and prosperity.
