Kjeller Research Park comprises nearly 40 companies within research, consulting services and education. Since the post-war period, the basement environment has brought together leading institutions in defence, preparedness, energy, environment, technology and education — which have been central to knowledge-based value creation in Norway.
Forsvarets Forskningsinstitutt(FFI)
FFI was established in 1947 as Forsvaretsegen research institution and is subordinate to the Ministry of Defence. The department conducts applied, interdisciplinary research to strengthen the Armed Forces operational capability, long-term planning and the Norwegian defence industry. FFI has been very important forthe development of Norwegian defence and security policy expertise.
Kongsberg Gruppen (Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace)
Kongsberg has been a central part of Norwegian industrial and defence history for over 200 years. The cooperation with FFI from the late 1940s laid the groundwork for the development of advanced defense and space systems. Today, the Group is an international provider of high-tech solutions that contribute to national and allied security.
Institute of Energy Engineering (IFE)
IFE is an international research foundation that plays a central role in the development of energy, petroleum and nuclear technology in Norway. The Institute has contributed to major socio-economic gains, including in the areas of cancer medicine, renewable energy and energy-efficient industrial processes. IFE builds expertise for the energy systems of the future.
Agilera
Agilera was spun off from IFE in 2023, after decades of research in radiopharmaceuticals, and one of the few companies in the world to combine development expertise with commercial production of radiopharmaceuticals. Through close collaboration with research communities and clients, Agilera brings new cancer drugs from idea to patient.
Akershus Energy
Akershus Energi has been producing renewable energy for almost 100 years, with hydropower as its historical core. The company has developed into a broad energy group focusing on bioenergy, solar, wind, district heating and hydrogen, among others. Akershus Energi is an important player in the transition to a more sustainable energy system.
NILU Foundation
NILU was founded in 1969 and is an independent, applied research institute in the fields of climate, air quality and environment .The institute has been of great importance for the understanding of climate change, pollution and health effects. NILU contributes to sustainable societal solutions through leading-edge infrastructure with laboratories, observatories and open data centers.
Justervesenet
Justervesenet has roots back to 1832 and is Norway's national professional body for measurement technology. The agency ensures that measurements in the community are accurate, reliable and in line with international standards. This is crucial for fair trade, industry, governance and community confidence in measurements.
NORSAR
NORSAR is an internationally recognized research institute in seismology and applied geophysics. The Institute gained historical significance when, in 1973, it became the first non-American node on the ARPANET, the forerunner of the Internet. For more than 50 years, NORSAR has contributed to the global monitoring of earthquakes and explosions.
OsloMet — Metropolitan University
OsloMet has a history of over 200 years and is today one of Norway's largest universities. The new campus, which involves moving from Kjeller to Lillestrøm, will have 5,000 students. OsloMet has strong professional communities in health and technology, business administration, management and administration, which are closely linked to the research and innovation community.
