Øystein Skår, Niclas Moen, and Thorbjørn Hareide of Hafvik Solutions are working to reduce emissions in the maritime industry by offering low-emission engines from the world's largest engine supplier, HD Hyundai, and exhaust gas cleaning technology from the German company H+H Engineering & Service.
Hafvik Solutions AS, based at Slynga in Rælingen, provides power and environmental solutions to the maritime industry. The company works with both new shipbuilding projects and vessels already in operation.
The company was established in 2025 by individuals with extensive experience in the maritime industry and backgrounds in areas such as marine engines, ship propulsion systems, environmental technology, and project management. Hafvik aims to combine this experience with technology from leading international suppliers and make these solutions available to the Norwegian maritime sector.
"We know both the technology and the maritime industry well. When we started Hafvik, we wanted to build a company that could be close to our customers while representing some of the strongest international technology suppliers," says Øystein Skår, Chairman of the Board at Hafvik Solutions.
World leader in medium-speed marine engines
Hafvik represents the HD KSOE Eco Propulsion Division. HD is a world leader in the production of medium-speed marine engines and has spent many years developing engines and propulsion solutions for the global maritime industry.
An important part of future development is the transition to lower-emission fuels. Hyundai has therefore developed engine solutions for LNG, methanol, ammonia, biofuels, and other alternative fuels. Hafvik works with shipowners, ship designers, and shipyards to find solutions that are both emission-reducing and technically and commercially attractive.
Reducing NOx emissions from existing and new ships
Hafvik also represents the German company H+H Engineering & Service, which develops and supplies SCR systems for the reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from marine engines.
In this area, Hafvik works with both new SCR systems and retrofitting systems on existing vessels. For systems already in operation, the company offers service and technical support throughout the entire lifespan of the equipment.
This allows Hafvik to follow a project from the selection and dimensioning of technology to installation, operation, and subsequent service and maintenance.
"That is part of what makes our daily work so exciting. One day we might be working on a new ship project, discussing future fuels and propulsion solutions, while the next day might be about solving a specific problem on a ship already in operation," says Skår.
