Akershus County Council has decided that Fagskolen Viken will establish a larger campus for higher vocational education in Lillestrøm.

Vice Rector June Enger is pleased that Fagskolen Viken has the opportunity to strengthen its offerings within higher vocational education. Romerike – and Akershus – needs this.

Enger is working to expand both teaching capacity and teaching facilities to meet the increasing demand.

"This year, we saw a 50 percent increase in applicants to our programs. We have waiting lists for several of our courses", she tells Lillestrøm Municipality.

Good career opportunities in vocational fields

"We are pleased that Akershus County Council has decided that Fagskolen Viken will invest in Lillestrøm," says Lillestrøm's Mayor Kjartan Berland.

He points out that increasingly more young people are choosing vocational education. The vocational colleges help them gain a career path forward and opportunities to update their skills throughout their careers, he notes.

– A varied offering within higher vocational education is also important for the workforce to acquire the skills they need. It makes sense that Fagskolen Viken and OsloMet collaborate on both the programs and facilities, he says.

Will still have local study programs

Today, Fagskolen rents premises from OsloMet in Kjeller. There, they have developed several collaborations with the Nordic region's largest academic community in vocational teacher education and vocational research.

Viken Vocational College will continue to offer study programs in many different locations. Today, the college offers travel and tourism programs at Gardermoakademiet in Jessheim and decentralized study programs in Asker, Aurskog-Høland, Lørenskog, and Nannestad.
